The Bernie Sanders rally in Portland on March 25th was unique in having a wild bird present, who temporarily stole the show, with appropriate comments from Bernie. This bird was a female house finch, probably accidentally trapped in the Portland MODA Center while looking for food. I saw it flying between ceiling beams before the rally started, one lone bird among about 11,000 noisy people. I was amazed that she came over to me, to a sill right behind my head, like she was asking for something, and then she flew off to the stage behind Bernie. The most amazing part was what made the news, that she had the courage to go right to the podium at the center of all attention, and sit there to make an impression. Who knows, maybe she did play the role of a sign from nature, to be included in the discussion and the politics. I hope she found a way out when things calmed down. Birds certainly have a skill of knowing who and what poses a threat around them, and this one went straight to Bernie Sanders. On the other hand, she could have been asking for some of that water in his bottle, as there is nowhere else for a drink if you are a bird loose in a sports arena. I love the symbolic interpretation of a sign from nature though.
