Farage blames THIS European Union law for French firm winning bid to print UK passports

The new blue British passports to be issued after Brexit look set to be made in France according to De La Rue, the British company which has held the contract since 2009.

The company, based in Gateshead, claim they have been “undercut on price” by Gemalto, a Franco-Dutch firm.

Leading Brexit supporter Mr Farage criticised European Union procurement rules for why the British company lost the chance to print the first batch of blue passports.

Speaking on BBC News, Nigel Farage said: “You see under European Union procurement laws we’re supposed to treat other countries the same as our own.

“The only country that does that is the United Kingdom.
